This is what I wore for my birthday dinner yesterday eve, but swapped the slippers for Bruno Magli over the knee boots. Had planned on dressing up more elegantly, but it was freezing out and we were planning to walk the kilometer to the restaurant, so keeping it youthful and casual it is.

emerald rodarte

Last week brought the best deal I've ever found at an outlet: this incredible Rodarte sweater. It is completely hand knit using many subtle colours and tiny sequins in the emerald and light blue colours.

I wanted to close the year with a dramatic look inspired by the new Saint Laurant collection and using some old Yves Saint Laurant. Wishing everyone a wonderful and exciting start to 2013.

pastel snow dream

We received more snow this weekend and I felt inspired to wear pastel snow-princess-y colours and shapes. I wanted things to seem very 'sugar plum fairy' with ruffles (sleeves + bag), sequins, sheer, fluff and cashmere, anchored in distressed pastel denim. Things seem so dreamy with a thick coating of white and it makes me marvel at how much the temperature changes here from summer to winter - much more than in Victoria BC.

black trimmings

Taking things into edgier territory with a black on black on black with leather trim outfit. The dress is an awesome little vintage find of unknown brand and is a great example of a way to wear midi-length, while keeping things flattering on the legs with a side slit. Lovely wool fabric trimmed with leather boarders on the top and slit and waist with a mesh high neck.

There's something delightfully unconventional about a skirt suit done in a cashmere knit. I like the irony of what is traditionally a classic and physically constraining garment done in a material that renders it warm and fluid: an outfit to happily spend the entire day in.

This look is a little bit school-girl prep but the leather jacket adds a bit of "let's go drive this vintage Fiat 500 to lake Como with the windows down and the heat on" edge.

I wanted to focus on this lovely loose-knit vintage Missoni sweater. I love the many shades of purple it has woven in - cozy and dimensional.

My favourite little leather jacket gets offset with romantic ruffles (and a shiny bow motif) in the final look from the shoot with Liselotte Fleur.

Last year I was approached by a talented young photographer from Holland who was studying in Milan. I packed a few clothing pieces and met her at the Brera Art Academy. Shooting with her was a pleasure and I think she has a long and brilliant career ahead of her.
