This outfit makes me think of my time living in Oslo Norway four years ago. The Norwegian girls were wearing pearl earrings and leather jackets, leather tall boots and some variation of a cotton blouse like this one, which I purchased there at the time. Being 100% of Norwegian descent myself, I have a fondness for Scandinavian minimalism - both in home design elements and in clothing items. Think of this look as a snapshot of four years ago Oslo... though I think it's still currently acceptable.

the narciso fit

It's an unusual feeling when in January it is warm enough to take off your jacket for a few minutes in order to photograph the amazing achievement of fit and construction that is this dress. There are seams and intricate paneling in places I would have never thought of and then suddenly on the body it all makes sense. I have a few Narciso Rodriguez items in my closet and each is as dynamite in this regard as this dress. The fabric is a heavy silk that feels like a wool, and is warm like a wool.

The weather the past few days has certainly been something to enjoy. I'm glad to be able to comfortably wear this berry-hued drop-waist wool dress without tights as my favourite tights to pair with this dress are left behind in Canada... where they are probably more consistently necessary.

Having a Dr. Zhivago moment in the snow, bundled up with double layers of vintage Missoni knits. It's a welcome peaceful mood in this city where much of the park snow has been left undisturbed.

Taking things into edgier territory with a black on black on black with leather trim outfit. The dress is an awesome little vintage find of unknown brand and is a great example of a way to wear midi-length, while keeping things flattering on the legs with a side slit. Lovely wool fabric trimmed with leather boarders on the top and slit and waist with a mesh high neck.

As a member of the red hair population - heard of the 2%? - I've often been told that with regards to certain colours - I'm looking at you hot pink - it's best to take a pass and let the 98% have the crazy colour fun... (Hot pink post coming up next week). Treading brightly but delicately in orange territory to avoid conjuring any pumpkin imagery, I found this dress in a Victoria BC vintage store last year. I immediately thought "MARNI!!" I like the minimalist structured cream top - which is actually a physical overlay with the orange attached to a sheer mesh-like structure underneath. And we have instant colour blocking...

This look is a little bit school-girl prep but the leather jacket adds a bit of "let's go drive this vintage Fiat 500 to lake Como with the windows down and the heat on" edge.
